Expanding society's imagination

Said
about
our
workshops

“The workshop provided a group of artists and producers coming from all around Europe not only to collectively reflect on representation, diversity and inclusion but also to individually question our relation to the realities of blackness and whiteness.

It offered a creative introspection which is needed to shift our mind-sets and therefore to impulse change in our perimeters of actions and power.

I left these two days of workshop feeling that I had started a personal journey, as much as a collective one.”

What we offer

We investigate blackness, embodiment, and voice in the arts in order to unsettle the habits of the white gaze and open speculative, reparative futures.

Through performance, writing, and collaborative research, we create spaces where racialized and marginalized bodies are not merely represented but centered as generators of theory, aesthetics, and new social imaginaries.

3 workshops are currently on offer, for small and large groups: arts organizations and companies, community groups, cultural institutions, schools and Universities. They can be woven together, you can take parts of one with elements of another.

Writing FutureBrownSpaces

These are a series of immersive gatherings for writers, artists, and thinkers of the Afro-diasporic world to experiment with language, imagination, and research as tools for liberation.

Writing WhitePastTimes

These is a workshop series that critically and compassionately explores how institutional whiteness shapes language, memory, and belonging.

Black Study

These workshops create a rigorous yet hospitable space to think, feel, and move with Black Study as a living practice rather than a purely academic discipline.

The Afrostar Galactica

The AfroStar Galactica is an afrofabulist performancelecture staged as a flight aboard a Black Study research vessel heading to “the Mothership”

It combines poken word and song, theory, humour, scent, circus, workshop elements, a decolonial spa, food and drink, dancing and choir to invite audiences into an experiential form of Black Study and speculative futurity.
